Hare Captures Bronze at World Rowing Cup, Ondrackova Competes at U23 Championships

Hare is a member of the Canadian National Team, while Ondrackova is a member of the Czech Republic's U23 team.
PULLMAN, Wash. – Recently graduated Washington State rower, Nicole Hare, captured bronze as a part of the Canadian women's four at World Rowing Cup III, while current student-athlete, WSU rising-sophomore, Kamila Ondrackova, placed fifth in the B Final and 11th overall, as part of the Czech Republic women's four at the U23 Championships.
Hare rowed stroke seat, along with Hillary Janssens, Susanne Grainger and Christine Roper, for Canada's women's four at World Cup III held at Lucerne, Switzerland, July 7-9. The crew placed second, behind Australia in its first heat of the competition, advancing to the Repechage, where they again placed second behind Poland. The second-place finish advanced Canada to the A Final, where the crew just missed out on silver, finishing second behind Russia with a time of 6:40.86, behind Russia's 6:40.77. Australia won the gold with a time of 6:35.82.
At the U23 Championships at Plovdiv, Bulgaria, July 19-23, Ondrackova stroked the four boat for the Czech Republic, along with Pavlina Flamikova, Lucie Heranova and Radka Novotnikova. The crew advanced to the A/B Semifinals with a third-place finish it its heat. The Czechs placed sixth in its heat to move on to the B Final, where they finished fifth and 11th overall with a time of 7:01.750, just over a second behind the United States in fourth at 6:59.570.
Ondrackova (Prague, Czech Republic) rowed with the varsity four and second varsity eight crews as a freshman at WSU in 2016-17. She was a member of the second varsity eight crew that placed fourth at the Pac-12 Championships and 14th at the NCAA Championships, as WSU finished 14th as a team.Â
Hare (Calgary, Alberta) finished her fourth and final season with the Cougars in 2017, having rowed with the varsity eight crew her entire career. She redshirted last season as she took a year off to train for the 2016 Olympic Games with Canada. Every year that Hare has been on the team, the Cougars have advanced to the NCAA Rowing Championships.Â
As a freshman in 2013, Hare was instrumental in getting WSU back to the NCAA Championships after a one-year drought, as she helped lead the varsity eight and the team to 14th-place finishes. The following season Hare's varsity eight crew finished 15th at the NCAA Championships, while the team placed 14th. The following season, 2015, the then-junior guided WSU to its second-best team finish in school history as the Cougars placed eighth and the varsity eight crew finished ninth. Â As a redshirt senior in 2017, Hare helped lead the varsity eight crew to a 13th-place finish at the NCAA Championships as WSU placed 14th as a team.Â
