SAN FRANCISCO – Sixteen members of the Washington State University women's rowing team earned Pac-12 All-Academic accolades, commissioner Larry Scott announced Friday.
Six Cougars were named to the first team, including seniors and three-time honorees,
Mihaela-Teodora Berindei (3.93 GPA, accounting) and
Nicole Hare (3.70 GPA, marketing), juniors and second-year honorees
Miranda Armstrong (3.66 GPA, neuroscience),
Jenna Mangiagli (3.63 GPA, human development) and
Emily Morrow (3.71 GPA, criminal justice), and sophomore
Paige Danielson (4.00 GPA, electrical engineering).
Five other members of the WSU rowing team earned second team honors; seniors and third-time honorees
Jessi Howe (3.55 GPA, civil engineering) and
Isabella Watt (3.38 GPA, sport science), second-year honoree, junior
Ellie Burg (3.47 GPA, psychology) and first-year honorees, senior
Hunter Jones (3.37 GPA, human development/communication) and sophomore
Taija Thompson (3.61 GPA, undeclared).
Rounding out the Cougar honorees were five that received honorable mention, including third-year honoree, senior
Ieva Adomaviciute and first-year honorees, senior
Jill Hannink, junior
Emily Thomson and sophomores
Grace Arnis and
Sara Brevick.
Adomaviciute, Berindei, Hare, Howe and Watt each received all-academic honors each of their three seasons of eligibility for the award. Berindei and Hare were first team honorees all-three seasons, Howe was second team all three seasons, Watt was second team for her junior and senior seasons, and honorable mention as a sophomore, while Adomaviciute was an honorable mention honoree each of her three years.
Stanford and California led the way with 18 honorees, followed by WSU's 16, Oregon State with 15, Washington 14, UCLA 13 and USC with 12. Washington State, Stanford and Oregon State had the most first team all-academic honorees, as each had six.
To be eligible for selection to the Pac-12 academic teams, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.0 overall grade point average, compete in a minimum of 50 percent of competitions, and be in at least her second academic year at the institution.
