PULLMAN, Wash. -- Washington State volleyball player Jocelyn Urias will compete in the Federation Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB) World Grand Prix this summer as a member of the Mexican National Team.
Â
Urias, a redshirt sophomore middle blocker from Tijuana, Mexico, was a three-year member of the Mexican Junior National Team and has played for the Baja California Club team. She was named the MVP of the 2015 Copa Federacion (Federation Cup), a qualifying tournament for the Liga Mexicana de Voleibol (LMV).
Â
Urias also played on the Mexican National Team at the 2015 FIVB World Grand Prix, but the team did not advance from preliminary rounds in pool play.
Â
The 2017 FIVB World Grand Prix takes place in international locations July 7-9, 14-16 and 21-23. This year's Grand Prix tournament is the largest ever, with 32 teams from countries divided into three groups. Groups 1 and 2 have 12 teams each and Group 3 is comprised of eight teams: Australia, Algeria, Cameroon, Colombia, Hungary, Mexico, Trinidad and Tobago, and Venezuela. The Group 3 Preliminary Round will be played in four-team pools over two weekends. The best four teams from Groups 2 and 3 will join the top six teams from Group 1 to play in the finals. The Final Four tournament will feature the top three teams of the combined standings plus the event hosts.
