EL MACERO, Calif. – Highlighted by a top-10 finish from junior Derek Bayley, Washington State men's golf finished seventh at the El Macero Classic, Friday, with a three-round score of 908 (+44).
WSU shot 13-over in the third round to finish 14 strokes behind tournament-champion and in-state rival Seattle U (+30, 894). Fresno State and Oregon State finished just one stroke behind Seattle U to tie for second place (+31, 895). Host-school UC Davis (+35, 899) and Grand Canyon (+39, 903) finished in fourth and fifth, respectively.
Bayley, who tallied his third top-10 finish of the season, shot 1-over in the third round and tied for eighth place (+7, 223). The golfer finished eight strokes back of tournament-winner Ben Corfee of UC Davis.
Freshman Daniel Kolar recorded the first top-25 finish of his career after tying for 20th. The Australian-native shot 12-over through three rounds with a final score of 228. Finishing one stroke behind Kolar was junior Zach Anderson, who tied for 28th (+13, 229) after shooting 4-over in the third round.
Senior Nick Mandell and junior Brian Mogg both tied for 33rd place with a three-round total of 230 (+14). Competing as an individual, sophomore AJ Armstrong recorded his best score of the tournament in the final round and tied for 55th place (+21, 237).Â
The Cougars conclude their 2016-17 season at Boulder, Colo., Apr. 28-30, for the Pac-12 Championships.
