SEASIDE, Calif. (Oct. 20, 2025) – Senior
Sam Renner shot a bogey-free round of 5-under, 67, to lead Washington State during the first round of play at the 2025 Saint Mary's Invitational Monday, played on the 7,104-yard, par 72 Bayonet Golf Course.
The Cougars finished the first day at 1-over, 289, and sit in eighth place overall. Arkansas State leads the way at 9-under while host Saint Mary's is five strokes back at 4-under, and Fresno State is third at 3-under.
Renner was flawless in his first 18 holes, collecting five birdies and no bogeys on his round. Starting on the Hole 10, Renner began with a birdie before five-straight pars. He closed his first nine holes with consecutive birdies on Holes 16-18 to make the turn at 4-under, 32. A birdie on Hole 3, his 12th hole of the day, pushed him to 5-under before closing his round with six more pars. The 67 matched Renner's low round of the season and places him in second place overall.
Freshman
Dylan Boenning had an up-and-down day before concluding his first 18 holes at even-par, 72. Boenning began with a birdie on Hole 10 and proceeded to add two bogeys and two more birdies over his next five holes. A bogey on No. 17 and a par on 18 had him even par at the turn. He tripled Hole 2 before birdies on Holes 3, 5 and 8 drew him back to even par as he finished with a 72, tied for 22nd overall.
Redshirt-junior
Ben Borgida began his 10 with 10-straight pars before his only hiccup with back-to-back bogeys on Holes 2 and 3. Borgida quickly righted the ship and closed his round with six consecutive pars to finish his first day at 2-over, 74, tied for 41st overall.
Junior
Ben Mulder began his day with a birdie on the first hole before two bogeys put him at 1-over, 37, at the turn. Four bogeys sandwiched around a birdie on his second nine holes moved him to 4-over, 76, for the round, tied for 60th.
Sophomore
Dylan Burcham never found his stroke as he posted three bogeys and a triple en route to a 6-over, 78 Monday, tied for 79th overall.
Freshman
Christian Flick competed as an individual Monday and posted a 3-over, 75, a round that included two birdies, one on each side. Flick enters Tuesday's second round tied for 50th.
Round 2 at the Saint Mary's Invitational continues Tuesday with the Cougars teeing off the first hole beginning at 8:44 a.m.
