LAS VEGAS -- The UNLV women's tennis team captured three singles matches en route to a 4-0 victory over visiting Washington State Wednesday at the Fertitta Tennis Complex.
 
With the loss, the Cougars fall to 9-6 on the season while UNLV improves to 10-5.
 
The day began with doubles play where the Rebels captured two matches to clinch the opening point. At No. 1 UNLV's Aiwen Zhu and En-Pei Huang recorded a 6-1 win over Barbora Michalkova and Victoria while Paola Artiga and Anna Bogoslavets sealed the doubles point with a 6-3 victory over WUSY's Melisa Ates and Guzal Yusupova. The No. 2 match between the Cougar duo of Aneta Miksovska and Lejla Colic facing UNLV's Carol Yang and Cristina Moroi was on serve with the Cougars trailing 3-4 when play was stopped.
 
In singles action Yang, the nation's 37th-ranked player, defeated Michalkova 6-1, 6-2 at No. 1. At No. 5, Artiga added another win as she defeated Ates, 6-2, 6-2, while the match was clinched at No. 3 where Huang posted a straight-set, 7-5, 6-3, win over Matejevic at No. 3.
 
With the team outcome decided, the three remaining matches were halted. At No. 2, Yusupova dropped the first set 7-5, but was leading 4-2 in the second when play was stopped. At No. 4, Miksovska was coming back as she dropped a 6-4 first set, but was up a break at 3-1 in the second. At No. 6, Colic was in a tight battle against Jovana Kenic, falling in the first 6-4 but tied at 5-5 in the second.
 
The Cougars are next in action March 24 when they resume Pac-12 Conference play at Colorado. Match time is set for 12:30 p.m. PT.
