Cougars Finish Strong at Ohio State Invite

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Washington State swim team completed competition with another impressive day at the Ohio State Invite. The Cougars finished the weekend ninth with 160 points.
Freshman Alba Fores started the day off strong for the Cougars, clocking in at 17:01.99 for 25th place, the tenth-fastest in program history. Sophomore Ryan Falk finished 26th with a time of 17:02.93. Freshman Sam Howell clocked in at 17:31.11 in the event.
Pullman, Wash. native Taylor McCoy posted the fourth fastest time in program history in the 200 back, clocking in at 1:58.28 for 17th place. Emily Cook placed 27th touched the wall in 2:00.94, the tenth-fastest in program history.
In the 100 free, Fores led the way again taking 13th with a time of 49.87, the fourth-fastest in program history. Senior Hannah Bruggman finished 49.98 for 15th, a season best. Freshman Kelly Morgan clocked in at 50.71 for 24th place and ninth fastest in program history.
In the 200 breast, freshman Mackenzie Duarte led the way for WSU, finishing 13th with a season-best 2:15.68, the seventh fastest in program history. Junior transfer, Clothilde Peseux finished 32nd with a time of 2:18.96, a season best. Taylor Schewchuck and Linnea Lindberg clocked in at 2:19.49 and 2:20.48, respectively.
Jasmine Margetts finished off individual events with a ninth place finish in the 200 fly, clocking in at 1:59.22, a season best. Sophomore Luci Brock clocked in at 2:07.58.
WSU closed the three-day invite with the 400 free relay. The team of Fores, Bruggman, Rachel Thompson, and Kelly Morgan swam to an impressive finish, as they took eighth with a time 3:21.85.
The Cougars will be back in action Jan. 13 when they welcome Arizona State to Gibb Pool.
