WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue captured three, three-set matches in singles to secure a 6-1 victory over Washington State Friday afternoon at the Schwartz Tennis Center.
 
The Boilermakers (5-0) captured the opening doubles point by taking two of three matches. At No. 1 Rafaella Baquerizo and Nicole Robinson captured an early break en route to a 6-2 win over Washington State's (4-1) Guzal Yusupova and Barbora Michalkova. WSU's No. 3 team of Aneta Miksovska and Lejla Colic posted an identical 6-2 score in its win over Marta Ruedas and Alex Sabe. The doubles point came down to No. 2 where WSU's Melisa Ates and Victoria Matejevic twice battled back from a break down before falling 7-5 to Caitlin Calkins and Natalia Davila.
 
In singles play the Cougars won the opening set in three matches but were only able to come away with a victory in one of those. At No. 2, Michalkova won the first, dropped the second, and then rallied from 4-5 down in the third to come away with a 6-3, 4-6, 7-5 victory.
 
At No. 3 Matejevic captured the first set against Sabe, 6-4, and could not hold on as she dropped the next two sets, 6-3, 6-3. Colic at No. 5 also won the first set 6-3 before falling to Deborah Suarez, 3-6, 6-2, 6-1.
 
At No. 1 Robinson had little trouble with Yusupova, winning 6-2, 6-1, while Baquerizo won 7-6, 6-1 at No. 4 against Miksovska. The final match saw Ates force a third set after dropping the first but she could not hold off Davila, who won 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 at No. 6.
 
The Cougars concluded their two-match swing through the Midwest when they face Indiana Sunday at 6:30 a.m. PT.
