Talented Texas Setter Joins Cougar Volleyball Team

PULLMAN, Wash. – Ashley Brown, an Under Armour All-America Honorable Mention prep player, joined the Washington State University volleyball team at the start of the Spring semester, Cougar Head Coach Jen Greeny announced Monday.

Brown, a 5-9 setter from Prosper, Texas, transferred after one season at the University of Oklahoma. The Sooners had a 14-15 overall record and were 5-11 in Big 12 action for seventh-place in 2016.

While at Prosper High School, Brown was a three-year starting setter and two-time Texas Girls Coaching Association (TGCA) 5A All-State selection. She was a two-time Dallas Morning News First Team selection and a three-time All-District First Team selection. Brown was named the District MVP in 2015 and the District Setter of the Year in 2016 after leading her Eagles into the District Championships both years. The Prosper HS team was the runner-up at the state championships in 2014. She was also a three-time Academic All-District selection.

Brown played on the Lonestar Volleyball and Texas Advantage Volleyball Club teams over a period of seven years. She was named to the 17-Open National All-Tournament team in 2015 after her team placed third at the prestigious tournament. Brown was also tapped for the USAV 18-Open Nationals All-Tournament team and the AAU 18-Open Nationals All-Tournament team.

Her talents were recognized on a national level with her inclusion in the PrepVolleyball.com's Sophomore 79 list, Top 50 Junior list, and was number 76 on the Senior Aces list. Her prep career was capped with the AVCA Under Armour All-America Honorable Mention team selection.

"We are thrilled to add Ashley to our program," WSU Head Coach and Pac-12 Coach of the Year Greeny said. "She brings a wealth of experience and knowledge with her and we are excited to have her on campus and training with us this spring."

The Cougars volleyball team advanced to the 2016 NCAA Championship tournament second round, accumulating a 22-12 record, the most wins in a season since 2002.
