SPOKANE, Wash. – Washington State suffered an 8-0 setback in a nonconference matchup at Gonzaga University Tuesday evening.
WSU (9-17) picked up five hits and the Bulldogs improved to 17-10 after collecting eight hits.
The Cougars had a couple scoring chances early as Trek Stemp was stranded at third base in the first inning and the second inning ended with Weston Hatten being tagged out at home after tying to score on a flyout. Hatten led off the inning with a double to left field.
Gonzaga pushed two runs across in the second, loading the bases before a two-run double to right field scored two. The Bulldogs added five more in the fifth, using five hits and a WSU error to open up a 7-0 advantage. GU added another in the sixth, capping the scoring with a solo homer.
GU starting pitcher Justin Blatner earned the win after striking out five in five innings.
Washington State heads to Arizona for a Pac-12 Conference series beginning Friday.
