SEATTLE – The Washington State University women's rowing team won a heat at the Head of the Lake and finished second in two others, Sunday morning at Seattle. The Cougars' third varsity eight rowed to a victory, while the varsity and second varsity crews posted competitive performances under beautiful conditions.

In the Women's Collegiate 3V 8+ heat, Washington State took home the top finishing time. The Cougars (Cox –

The Cougars also rowed in the same heat as Gonzaga, who will visit Wawawai Landing to open the spring season. WSU out-raced both the Bulldogs and the Cardinal, finishing the three-mile course at 18:05.330, six seconds ahead of Stanford and 56 seconds ahead of Gonzaga. Washington won the heat, finishing narrowly ahead of the Cougars at 17:57.547.

The WSU second varsity eight also was edged by the Huskies in the Women's Collegiate JV 8+. The Cougars (Cox –

Washington won the heat by 14 seconds, while the Cougars also defeated the University of British Columbia, Gonzaga, Portland, Western Washington, and Oregon.

Washington State heads into its winter training and will open the spring season, March 25 at Wawawai Landing on the Snake River in dual action against Gonzaga.
