LAHAINA, Maui – Sophomore Donika Bashota continued her strong start to the 2016 season by picking up another victory at the Weinman Foundation Invitational at the Royal Lahaina Tennis Ranch Wednesday. 

The four-team tournament, which includes WSU, Missouri, Texas Tech and host Hawaii, consists of singles and doubles matches in a non-team scoring format. Texas Tech entered the week with a No. 17 national ranking.

Bashota won her second-straight singles match in Hawaii with a 7-6, 6-4 win over Brianna Lashway of Missouri. It marked the lone singles victory for the Cougars on the day.

Cougar senior Trang Huynh fell in two close sets to Missouri's Bea Machado Santos, 7-5, 7-6, while teammate Maria Biryukova dropped a 6-3, 6-1 decision to Texas Tech's Sarah Dvorak. Dvorak's teammate, Lynn Kiro, posted a 6-3, 6-2 win over WSU's Barbora Michalkova while another Red Raider, Autumn Crossnoe, came away with a 6-2, 6-3 win over WSU's Victoria Matejevic, 6-2, 6-3.

Hawaii's Paulina Petriskova defeated WSU captain Lize Leenknecht in three sets, 4-6, 6-0, 6-2, Petriskova's teammate, Roxanne Resma, defeated WSU's Holly Monahan, 6-0, 6-1, and Texas Tech's Katelyn Jackson defeated Michalkova, 6-4, 6-3.

In doubles action, Hawaii's Cindy Nguyen and Resma needed a tiebreaker to defeat Bashota and Leenknecht, 7-6, while Jackson and Dvorak posted a 6-2 victory over Biryukova and Huynh. Missouri's Santos and Kelli Hine rode a break of serve to a 6-4 win over Michalkova and Matejevic.
