PROVO, Utah – Washington State sophomore Donika Bashota captured her second-straight tournament title with a three-set victory Saturday at the BYU Invitational.
Bashota, who captured the Cougar Classic last week, made it nine-straight wins to open the fall season as she needed three-sets to defeat the top-seeded Teal Vosburgh of Boise State, 6-3, 3-6, 6-3. Bashota rode an early break in the third set to clinch the match as the Cougars swept all three flights during the weekend.
In the singles consolation flight, senior Lize Leenknecht needed just two sets to defeat Boise State's Nancy Menjivar, 6-1, 6-4. Leenknecht won four-straight matches in the back draw, all in straight sets, to capture the flight.
The WSU duo of Bashota and Leenknecht captured the doubles title Saturday with a 6-2 victory over BYU's Taylah Beckman and Toby Miclat.
The Cougars are next in action Oct. 2 when they host the WSU Invitational at the WSU Outdoor Tennis Courts.
