PROVO, Utah – Washington State's Lize Leenknecht and Donika Bashota captured the doubles title Friday during the second day of play at the 2015 BYU Invitational.
Leenknecht and Bashota began the day defeating Boise State's Megan LaLone and Bobbi Oshiro, 6-1. The WSU pair continued its dominance taking the doubles final by a score of 6-2 over BYU's Toby Miclat and Taylah Beckman. The duo has posted a 7-0 doubles record to begin the fall season.
In singles play, the Cougars placed three in the semifinal round. Bashota started the day defeating BYU's Taylah Beckman, 6-1, 6-2 and advanced to the finals by defeating teammate Maria Biryukova, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3. Biryukova defeated Toby Miclat of BYU, 6-4, 6-4 in the quarterfinal round.
Trang Huyhn defeated Boise State's LaLone 6-4, 6-1, before falling in the semifinals to the No. 1 seed Teal Vosburgh of BSU, 6-4, 2-6, 7-6. Freshman Aneta Miksovska fell to BSU's Vosburgh, 6-2, 6-1 in singles quarterfinal play.
WSU's Leenknecht opened singles consolation play with a victory over Kirsty Venter of BSU, 6-2, 6-1 and advanced to the consolation quarterfinals by defeating BYU's Erica Valimaki, 7-5, 6-1. Victoria Matejevic defeated BYU's Sarah Clifford 6-2, 2-6, 6-3 to open singles consolation play and fell in the next round to BYU's Brittney Eraso 7-6 (4), 6-3.
Washington State's Barbora Michalkova defeated BYU's Demi Daniels 6-0, 6-1 and fell in the next round of consolation play 6-3, 6-0 to BSU's Bobbi Oshiro. Sophomore Holly Monahan fell to BSU's Nancy Menjivar in the consolation second round.
The BYU Invitational wraps up Saturday.
