Cougars Return to Pullman to Host Fall Tournament

THIS WEEK: The Washington State University women's golf team returns to Pullman to host the WSU Cougar Cup, Sept. 21-22, at the Palouse Ridge Golf Club, for its second tournament of the 2015 fall season.
THE COURSE: WSU's Palouse Ridge Golf Club is located on campus and was the host for the 2015 Men's Pac-12 Golf Championships…the 6,200-yard track will play at par 72 for the WSU Cougar Cup...the course, which opened in Aug. 2008, was named to Golfweek's Top College Courses list in 2014 and 2015.
THE FIELD: Joining Washington State in the 12-team field will be Cal State Fullerton, Eastern Washington, Grand Canyon, Idaho, Montana, Montana State, Sacramento State, Seattle, Utah Valley, Fresno State, and British Columbia.
REPRESENTING WASHINGTON STATE: Competing for the Cougar women will be sophomore Alivia Brown, junior Cherokee Kim, junior Nani Yanagi, senior Monica Huang and senior Rachel Lewis…also playing as individuals will be sophomore Bree Wanderscheid, freshman Madison Odiorne, and sophomore Jamie Midkiff.
LAST TIME IN PULLMAN: The Cougars hosted and won the WSU Cougar Cup in 2014, finishing 3-over par (897), 16 strokes ahead of second-place finisher BYU (+16, 883)…competing as an individual, current senior Nani Yanagi won the tournament, finishing 2-under par (210).
LAST TIME ON THE GREEN: Washington State finished 14th in a talented field of 18 at the 2015 Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational, Sept. 14-15, in Albuquerque, N.M…the Cougars finished 26-over par (902)…sophomore Alivia Brown led the team, finishing tied for 26th at 1-over (220), nine strokes behind winner Sarah Cho of Stanford (-8, 211)…junior Cherokee Kim tied for 45th (+7, 226).
COACHING STAFF: The Cougars are led by seventh-year head coach Kelli Kamimura, who led the team to its lowest team scoring average in school history last season…assisting Kamimura is WSU alumna and second-year assistant coach Emma Betland, who golfed for the Cougars from 2010-2013.
