PULLMAN, Wash. – Washington State's Lize Leenknecht and Donika Bashota advanced to the finals of the doubles flight Saturday during the second day of play at the 2015 Cougar Classic.
WSU's Leenknecht and Bashota began the day with a victory over Gonzaga's Domonique Garley and Sissi Koehler, 6-3. The duo earned a spot in the finals after defeating fellow WSU teammates Maria Biryukova and Holly Monahan, 7-5.
WSU's Trang Huynh and Barbora Miksovska began play today with a resounding 6-0 victory over Montana State's Middle/Brycki. The duo dropped its next match in the semifinals 6-2 to Gonzaga's Sam Polayes and Sophie Whittle.
The Cougars' doubles team of Barbora Michalkova and Victoria Matejevic fell in the first match of the day to Gonzaga's Sam Polayes and Sopie Whittle, 6-2. The duo bounced back to win 6-4 over Montana State's Laura Middel and Jessica Brycki in the doubles consolation bracket.
The Cougars continued to dominate the singles flight taking three of four matches in the quarterfinal rounds. WSU's Barbora Michalkova advanced to the semifinal round in resounding fashion defeating Montana's Hannah Sulz 6-3, 6-3.
Washington State's No. 2 Huynh battled with Gonzaga's Nevada Apollo taking the match, 7-6, 4-6, 6-4. Bashota earned her way to the semifinal round by defeating Gonzaga's Alex Bourguignon, 6-3, 6-0.
The Cougars continue play Sunday at the Cougar Classic with matches starting at 9
a.m. at the WSU Outdoor Tennis Courts.
