Cougar Rowing Concludes Fall Season in Seattle

SEATTLE, Wash. – The Washington State University women's rowing team wrapped up the 2015 fall season with three second-place finishes Sunday morning at the Head of the Lake at Seattle. The Cougars launched three varsity eight boats in the three-mile race that takes place in both Lake Union and Lake Washington.
"It was a solid effort by all of our teams today," Head Coach Jane LaRiviere said. "There were a lot of lessons learned. We are looking forward to getting back to the grind."
The Cougar varsity eight (coxswain – Rebecca Burns, Savannah Davison, Morgan Cathrea, Chloe Rogers, Kotryna Lasaite, Emily Morrow, Teo Berindei, Jordan Watson, Isabella Watt) finished second on the three-mile course with a time of 17:55.23, six seconds behind Washington. The Cougars defeated third-place British Columbia by approximately 17 seconds and also out-stroked Portland, Gonzaga, Seattle, and Oregon State.
The second varsity eight (coxswain – Jenna Mangiagli, Jessica Newson, Kim Coon, Jess Brougham , Jenna Kennedy, Lucie Weissova, Sarah Steger, Tori Gerken, Taija Thompson) also took second behind cross-state rival Washington. With a time of 18:39.58, the Cougars finished ahead of British Columbia, Gonzaga, Victoria and Portland. The crew finished 30 seconds behind Washington.
Washington State's third varsity eight (coxswain – Ellie Burg, JoAnne Bates, Katrina Tarrant, Jessica Howe, Katherine Persley, Brittany Brooks, Lori VerMurlen, Hunter Jones, Sheena Polman) wrapped the regatta with a second-place finish behind Washington. The Cougar crew out-stroked eight boats, including Gonzaga and Oregon, and finished with a time of 19:10.51.
The Cougars will travel to Silver Lake, Wash., to open the spring season, March 25 against Gonzaga.
