Cougars Travel to Denver

THIS WEEK: The Washington State University women's golf team travels to Highlands Ranch, Colo., to compete at the Ron Moore Invitational, Oct. 9-11, at Highlands Ranch Golf Club.
THE COURSE: University of Denver's Highlands Ranch Golf Club was designed by three-time U.S. Open champion Hale Irwin…the 6,326-yard track will play at par-72 for the Ron Moore Invitational…play begins Friday at 8:30 a.m.…the second round will start Saturday at 8:30 a.m.…the tournament will conclude Sunday with a shotgun start at 9 a.m.
THE FIELD: Joining host-school Denver in the 19-team field will be Arkansas Little-Rock, Colorado, Colorado State, Florida International, Fresno State, Long Beach State, Montana State, Omaha, North Dakota, North Dakota State, Northern Colorado, San Francisco, Santa Clara, South Florida, Tulsa, Washington State, Wichita State, and Wyoming.
REPRESENTING WASHINGTON STATE: Competing for the Cougar women will be junior Cherokee Kim, sophomores Bree Wanderscheid and Alivia Brown, and seniors Nani Yanagi and Monica Huang.
LAST TIME IN COLORADO: WSU finished 11th in a field that featured nine top-40 teams at the 2015 Pac-12 Women's Golf Championships at the Boulder Country Club, at Boulder, Colo., April 20-22…Brown tied for 32nd place with senior Kristen Rue at 10-over (223)…Kim carded five birdies in the tournament and finished tied for 41st at 14-over (227).
LAST TIME ON THE GREEN: Women's golf won its first tournament of the season while Kim won the first tournament of her career at 5-under par (211) at the WSU Cougar Cup, Sept. 21-22, at Palouse Ridge Golf Club…the team's third-consecutive win at the tournament was highlighted by its best three-round total in Cougar Cup play…Wanderscheid competed as an individual and came in a personal-best fifth place at a 1-over 217…Brown and Yanagi tied for sixth (+2, 218), one stroke behind Wanderscheid.
COACHING STAFF: The Cougars are led by seventh-year head coach Kelli Kamimura, who led the team to its lowest team scoring average in school history last season…assisting Kamimura is WSU alumna and second-year assistant coach Emma Betland, who golfed for the Cougars from 2010-2013.
