PULLMAN, Wash. – Freshman Aneta Miksovska and Barbora Michalkova won three doubles matches to highlight the first day of play at the 2015 WSU Invitational at the WSU Outdoor Tennis Courts.

In the Gray Doubles Flight, Miksovska and Michalkova began their dominant performance with a win over Oregon's Micheline Aubuchon and Paloma Gomez, 6-1. In the next round of play, the Cougar duo defeated Portland's Saroot Dhatt and Emily Gould, 6-0 then finished the day with a 6-3 victory over of Sarah Hellstern and Marina Reimers of Portland.

WSU's Maria Biryukova and Holly Monahan competed in two matches in the Gray Doubles Flight. The duo opened the day by defeating Idaho's Clair Yang and Lucia Badillos, 6-3, and fell to Daniela Nasser and Christi Woodson of Oregon, 7-6. 

In the Crimson Doubles Flight, seniors Lize Leenknecht and Trang Huynh fell in their first match of the day to Oregon's Kennan Johnson and Marlou Kluiving, 6-4. The duo then bounced back in the next two matches defeating Portland's Jelena Lazarevic and Tatiana Grigoryan, 6-2, and Portland's Radina Dimitrov and Tori Troesch, 6-3. 

Washington State's duo of Donika Bashota and Victoria Matejevic began the day in the Crimson Doubles Flight, winning their first match 6-4 over Idaho's Maria Tavares and Ana Batiri. The duo fell in their next two matches losing to Oregon's Alyssa Tobita and Shweta Sangwan, 7-6, and Boise State's Bobbi Oshiro and Ari Paules Aldrey, 7-6.  

In singles play, the Cougars won eight of nine matches on the day. 

In the Crimson Flight, Biryukova defeated Boise State's Bobbi Oshiro, 5-7, 6-4, 6-2. Bashota remained undefeated in singles play during the fall season, defeating Oregon's Kennan Johnson, 6-3, 7-5. In the Gray Flight, Michalkova defeated Boise State's Ari Paules Aldrey, 7-5, 6-2 while Huynh fell to Idaho's Maria Tavares, 6-1, 6-1, but won 6-0, 6-2 over Micheline Aubuchon of Oregon. 

In the Cougar Flight, WSU's Miksovska defeated Oregon's Daniela Nasser, 6-0, 6-2 and Leenknecht bested Portland's Saroop Dhatt, 6-4, 2-6, 6-2. In the WSU Flight, Monahan defeated Portland's Marina Reimers, 6-3, 6-0 and Matejevic defeated Idaho's Claire Yang, 6-2, 6-3.

Play continues at the WSU Invitational Saturday at 10 a.m. with two rounds of doubles followed by the semifinal round of singles play.
