Cougars to Compete at Pac-12 Preview

THIS WEEK: The Washington State University women's golf team travels to Kailua Kona, Hawaii, Nov. 2-3, to compete at the Pac-12 Preview at Nanea Golf Club.
THE TOURNAMENT: Teams will play the first two rounds on Monday and the final round on Tuesday, with a 7:30 a.m. shotgun start each day...designed by Bandon Dunes architect David McLay Kidd in 2003, Nanea Golf Club is a par-73, 6,112-yard track that has been ranked as one of the top courses in the nation and the world by Golf Magazine.
THE FIELD: Joining host-school Hawaii in the 10-team field will be Arizona, Arizona State, California, Colorado, Oregon, Oregon State, UCLA, Washington, and Washington State.
REPRESENTING WASHINGTON STATE: Competing for the Cougar women will be junior Cherokee Kim, sophomore Alivia Brown, senior Nani Yanagi, sophomore Bree Wanderscheid, and senior Monica Huang. Freshman Madison Odiorne and senior Rachel Lewis will compete as individuals.
LAST TIME AT THE PAC-12 PREVIEW: To conclude its 2014 fall season, WSU finished eighth with a three-round total of 904 (+28), ahead of nationally ranked schools No. 36 Oregon (+36, 912) and No. 27 Colorado (+45, 921)…in-state rival Washington won the tournament (-11, 865) before finishing eighth at the 2015 NCAA Championships…sophomore Alivia Brown tied for 12th at 2-over par (221)…teammate Kristen Rue finished four strokes back of Brown to tie for 21st (+6, 225).
LAST TIME ON THE GREEN: Women's golf finished 15th (+50, 902) in a talented field at the Stanford Intercollegiate, at Stanford, Calif., Oct. 18-20, at Stanford Golf Course…three Pac-12 competitors led the 17-team field, with No. 9 Stanford (-5, 847) winning the tournament, while No. 1 USC (+2, 854) and No. 12 UCLA (+3, 855) rounded out the top three…junior Cherokee Kim led the team for the entire tournament and tied for 30th (+6, 219)…Brown tied for 54th (+12, 225).
COACHING STAFF: The Cougars are led by seventh-year head coach Kelli Kamimura, who led the team to its lowest team scoring average in school history last season…assisting Kamimura is WSU alumna and second-year assistant coach Emma Betland, who golfed for the Cougars from 2010-2013.
