Women's Golf to Tee Off at Stanford

THIS WEEK: The Washington State University women's golf team heads to Stanford, Calif., to compete at the Stanford Intercollegiate hosted by Dr. Condoleezza Rice, Sunday through Tuesday, Oct. 18-20, at the Stanford Golf Course.
THE TOURNAMENT: Teams will tee off from the first and 10th holes beginning at 8:30 a.m. on Sunday and Monday for the first and second rounds, respectively…the tournament will conclude Tuesday, with teams teeing off at 7:30 a.m…Stanford University's Stanford Golf Course is a par-71, 6,130-yard track that has been consistently rated as one of the best courses in the world…designed by architects William Bell and George Thomas in 1930, the Stanford Golf Course has hosted the Pac-10 Championships, NCAA Women's Championships, and the U.S. Open Qualifying Round…
THE FIELD: The 17-team field is highlighted by five top-10 programs, including No. 1 USC, No. 3 Georgia, No. 4 Northwestern, No. 6 Arizona State, and No. 9 Stanford…also competing at the tournament will be No. 12 UCLA, No. 13 Arizona State, No. 15 Iowa State, No. 21 Washington, No 22. Vanderbilt, Auburn, California, Oregon, Pepperdine, San Jose State, UC Davis, and Washington State.
REPRESENTING WASHINGTON STATE: Competing for the Cougar women will be junior Cherokee Kim, sophomores Alivia Brown and Bree Wanderscheid, and seniors Nani Yanagi and Rachel Lewis.
LAST TIME AT THE STANFORD INTERCOLLEGIATE: WSU finished 16th in a talented field at the 2013 Stanford Intercollegiate (+66, 918)…USC won the tournament (-21, 831) after winning the 2013 NCAA Women's Golf Championship in the spring…seniors Mallory Kent and Kristen Rue tied for 44th (+9, 222) and 50th (+11, 224), respectively.
LAST TIME ON THE GREEN: Women's golf finished third (+6, 870) in an 18-team field at the Ron Moore Invitational, at Highlands Ranch, Colo., Oct. 9-11, at Highlands Ranch Golf Club…three golfers earned top-25 finishes…junior Cherokee Kim tied for fifth at one-under par (215)…sophomore Alivia Brown shot even par (216) to tie for 12th…with a three-round score of 217 (+1), sophomore Bree Wanderscheid finished 14th.
COACHING STAFF: The Cougars are led by seventh-year head coach Kelli Kamimura, who led the team to its lowest team scoring average in school history last season…assisting Kamimura is WSU alumna and second-year assistant coach Emma Betland, who golfed for the Cougars from 2010-2013.
