PULLMAN, Wash. – Senior Elizaveta Luzina and sophomore Victoria Matejevic each captured singles titles while Matejevic added a doubles title by teaming with Maria Biryukova during the final day of the 2014 Cougar Classic Sunday at the WSU Outdoor Tennis Courts.
In the Crimson singles flight, Luzina, the No. 1 seed, won the championship match for the second-straight year as she posted a convincing 6-2 6-1 victory over Gonzaga Alex Bourguignon.
In an exciting Gray singles final, Matejevic, playing in her first Cougar Classic, ended Boise State's championship hopes as she out-dueled Sammie Watson, 6-2, 4-6, 6-3.
In the Crimson doubles final, Washington State teammates competed against each other as Biryukova and Matejevic posted a 6-3 victory over Luzina and Donika Bashota.
The next scheduled competition for the Washington State women's tennis team is the 2014 WSU Invitational, which is scheduled for Oct. 3-5 in Pullman, Wash.
