PULLMAN, Wash. – The Washington State women's tennis team advanced two singles players and two doubles teams to finals during the second day of play at the Cougar Classic Saturday afternoon at the WSU Outdoor Tennis Courts.
In the Crimson doubles flight, both Washington State teams defeated Boise State's teams in semifinal play. Elizaveta Luzina and Donika Bashota continuing their hot streak defeating Megan LaLone and Arianna Paules Aldrey, 6-1. Maria Biryukova and Victoria Matejevic made it an all-WSU final with a 6-3 victory over Teal Vosburgh and Milena Toseva.
Luzina continued her strong play in the Crimson singles flight, posting a 6-2, 6-2 quarterfinal victory over Toseva. In her semifinal match, Luzina out-dueled teammate Biryukova, posting 7-5, 6-4 en route to clinching a spot in the final. Luzina will face Gonzaga University's Alex Bourguignon, a 6-3, 6-2 winner over Paules Aldrey, in the crimson singles championship.
In the Gray flight, Matejevic advanced to the finals with little trouble, defeating Idaho's Bety Flores 6-2, 6-1 in the quarterfinals and Boise State's Bobbi Oshiro 6-3, 6-3 in a semifinal match. Matejevic will face Boise State's Sammie Watson in the championship match.
The Cougars end play Sunday at the Cougar Classic with doubles finals starting at 9 a.m. and singles projected to begin at 10 a.m.
