LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The Washington State University women's golf team shot 3-under par (285) in the final round of the NM State Aggie Invitational and finished the tournament tied for sixth. The sub-par finish was the Cougars' third in their young, six-round season. The Cougars notched a three-round 877 (+13) on the par-72 University Golf Course, tying BYU, and finished two strokes back from Grand Canyon (+11, 875).

“I was really proud of how the team played today,” Cougar Head Coach Kelli Kamimura said. “They came out and fought hard. We shot 17 strokes better today than yesterday and that's something to build off of. It's early in the season, and there's a lot of golf left to be played.”

WSU senior Kristen Rue and junior Nani Yanagi led the Cougars, finishing tied for 11th and 13th, respectively. A pair of eagles in the third round highlighted Rue's day. Rue carded 3-stroke scores on the 488-yard, fourth hole and the 435-yard, 16th hole. Yanagi carded the second-lowest, third-round score in the 14-team field, shooting 5-under par (67). Yanagi carded six birdies and finished the tournament 1-over (217). The finish is Yanagi's second top-25 finish of her collegiate career.

Junior Rachel Lewis carded four birdies in the final round to save par. The round was Lewis's lowest of the tournament and brought her three-round score to 222 (+6). Lewis finished tied for 29th. Senior Lindsay Harmon finished tied for 39th, carding a 225 (+9). Freshman Alivia Brown (+11, 227) finished two strokes back from Harmon, tying for 44th.

With three tournaments remaining in the fall season, the Cougars will travel to Tacoma, Wash., Oct. 13-14 to compete in the Pat Lesser Harbottle Invitational.
