Trojans Even Series with Cougars

LOS ANGELES - Wyatt Strahan tossed a complete game and USC defeated Washington State 5-1 in Pac-12 Conference baseball, Saturday night at Dedeaux Field.

Strahan (4-3) scattered seven hits, struck out six and walked two. He carried a shutout into the ninth until Jason Monda doubled for the Cougars (21-25, 8-15 Pac-12), moved to third on wild pitch, and scored on a ground out by Adam Nelubowich.

The Trojans (18-30, 9-14 Pac-12) opened the scoring in the second inning against Scott Simon (3-3) on two hits and a sacrifice fly. USC added a pair of runs in the fourth on three hits and a wild pitch to increase its lead to 3-0. The Trojans tacked on a single run in the sixth and another in the seventh to close out their scoring.

The series concludes, Sunday with first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m.
