PULLMAN - Washington State's PJ Benedictus won the men's long jump with a leap equaling his lifetime best mark of 22-feet, 10 1/2 inches (6.97m) Friday night at the Cougar Indoor Track & Field meet in Pullman.
Benedictus, a sophomore from Renton, Wash., led a one-two Cougar finish in the men's long jump with senior Trevor Rogers second place with a season-best distance of 22-7 1/4 (6.89m).
Idaho's Kyle Rothwell won the men's 35-pound weight throw with a heave of 58-10 (17.93m) with Vandal teammate Zach Trumbauer second after throwing 54-10 1/4 (16.72m). WSU's Chris Baltazar took third with a season-best heave of 52-8 1/4 (16.06m) and Cougar freshman Travis Pickett was fourth with a throw of 52-1 (15.87m).
Kristine Leonard, from Idaho, won the women's 20-pound weight throw with a toss of 54-5 1/2 (16.60m). Cougar Mary Barnett threw a PR of 49-1 (14.96m) for fifth.
Matt Sullivan from Idaho, won the men's pole vault clearing the bar at 16-1 1/4 (4.91m). WSU's Austin Sodorff was second with a height of 15-1 1/2 (4.61m) and Curtis Flolid was third (14-7 1/2).
Lindsey Hall, a junior from Montana competing unattached, won the women's pentathlon with 3,686 points. Montana's Shayle Dezellem scored 3,370 points for second and Griz teammate Lindsey Dahl was third with 2,991 points.
After the first four events of the men's heptathlon, WSU's Sean Harris is in third with 2,885 points, Spencer Wordell is fifth with 2,694 points and Michael Bolligar is sixth with 2,603 points. Montana's Austin Emry leads the field with 3,075 points.
Harris ran the 60m dash in 7.43 seconds, long jumped 20-6 1/4 (6.25m), put the shot 44-1 1/2 (13.49m), and equaled his PR in the high jump by clearing 6-7 (2.01m). Wordell ran the 60m in 7.17, long jumped a PR distance of 21-0 (6.40m), threw the shot put a PR distance of 37-4 1/2 (11.39m), and high jumped 5-10 3/4 (1.80m). Bolligar ran a time of 7.36 in the 60m, long jumped 21-1 1/4 (6.43m), threw the shot 36-10 1/2 (11.24m), and high jumped 5-9 3/4 (1.77m).
The heptathlon continues Saturday morning at 10 a.m. with the rest of the Cougar Indoor individual events following at the WSU Indoor Facility. Spectator admission is free of charge.
