Final Draws

Senior Liudmila Vasilieva captured the Flight 1 singles final to highlight final-round play Sunday at the 2012 Cougar Classic.

Vasilieva defeated teammate Andjela Kankaras 6-4, 6-0, for her first tournament victory of the 2012 fall season. By winning five matches throughout the tournament, Vasilieva moves up in the career singles victories list, tying Erica Perkins for third with 87.

In the Flight 1 consolation bracket, senior Ksenia Googe cruised to a straight-set win over Megan LaLone of Boise State 6-1, 6-2. Googe's four wins this weekend moves her into 10th place on WSU's all-time list with 76. Sophomore Elizaveta Luzina fell in her only match Sunday to Boise State's Sammie Watson 6-2, 6-3.

Almudena Sanz of Idaho defeated Precious Gbadamosi of Montana, 7-6, 4-6, 6-3 to claim the Flight 2 singles title. Cougar sophomore Charlotte Koning posted a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Corinne Wurden of Seattle while freshman teammate Lize Leenknecht defeated Natalie Martin of Seattle 6-3, 6-1.

Ashley Mackey of Montana captured the Flight 3 singles title with a 7-5, 6-2 victory over Constance Alexander of Idaho in the final. WSU senior Erin Troedson went three sets in her match against Katy Krauel of Portland before falling 6-3, 4-6, 1-0 (10-4).

In doubles action, the Idaho pair of Vicky Lozano and Rita Bermudez captured the Flight 1 title with an 8-5 win over Vasilieva and Koning. The Flight 2 title was won by Mackey and Gbadamosi as they defeated Fiona Mok and Bobbi Oshiro of Boise State, 8-5.

WSU is next in action October 5 as they head to Colorado Springs, Colorado to compete in the Air Force Invitational
