Pullman, Wash. - Washington State seniors Liudmila Vasilieva and Andjela Kankaras advanced to the finals of the Flight 1 singles draw to highlight second day play at the 2012 Cougar Classic Saturday afternoon.

Vasilieva began her day with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Boise State's Morgan Basil and advanced to the championship match by defeating Basil's teammate, Marlena Pietzuch, 7-6, 6-4. Vasilieva will meet Kankaras, who defeated Sammy Watson of Boise State 6-2, 6-1 and moved on to the championship match with a win over teammate Ksenia Googe, 6-4, 7-5.

In the consolation of Flight 1, Washington State sophomore Elizaveta Luzina defeated Basil of Boise State, 7-5, 6-2 after losing to Pietzuch of Boise State, 6-3, 6-1, during the morning round.

In Flight 2, Washington State sophomore Charlotte Koning went 1-1 on the day with a loss to Almundena Sanz of Idaho, 6-4, 6-2, followed by a win over teammate Olga Musilovich in the consolation round. Cougar freshman Lize Leenknecht won both of her matches Saturday, defeating Deanri Human of LCSC, 6-4, 6-0, and Gonzaga's Britta Stime, 6-3, 6-1.

In Flight 3 singles, senior Erin Troedson fell to Constance Alexander of Idaho 6-0, 6-4.

Vasilieva and Koning defeated Basil and Megan LaLone of Boise State, 8-4 in a Flight 1 Doubles semifinal. The win pushed the Cougar pair into the championship match where it will face Rita Bermudez and Vicky Lozano of Idaho, who defeated Heather Davidson and Laurence Pelchat of Montana, 8-5.

In Flight 2 doubles semifinals, the Montana pair of Ashley Mackey and Precious Gbadamosi defeated Leenknecht and Luzina, 8-4. In the bottom half of the bracket, Troedson and Musilovich were beaten by Fiona Mok and Bobbie Oshiro of Boise State, 8-0.

Play at the 2012 Cougar Classic concludes Sunday with matches beginning at 9 a.m.
