PULLMAN -- The Washington State volleyball team (10-11, 0-9 Pac-12) lost to California (10-9, 4-5) Friday night by scores of 25-21, 25-21, and 25-21 before a crowd of 1,124 fans at Bohler Gym.

"Again, we are right there for most of the sets but when it comes down to crunch time we are making a lot of errors," Cougar Head Coach Jen Greeny said. "We just have to keep coming back and figure out how to stay aggressive during those tight sets. I thought Megan McManus did a great job of coming into the match and setting. Our hitters hit very well during that set."

The first set had nine ties and seven lead changes but Cal took the lead at 19-18 and didn't look back. Higgins had seven kills as the Bears hit .343 as a team. Harris led the Cougars with six kills and WSU hit. .182.

WSU took an 11-8 lead in the second set and extended to a 20-16 advantage. Cal scored five straight to go ahead 21-20. Harris, who had seven kills in this set, hit the line to knot the score at 21 but Higgins countered with a line shot of her own to give Cal the 22-21 edge. The Bears closed out the set for a 25-21 win, hitting .191 but holding WSU to a .042 hitting percentage.

Tied at 20 in the third WSU had back-to-back players called in the net. Caloiro and Hawari scored points but WSU errors gave Cal the set 25-21, and the match 3-0.

Sunday morning, Oct. 21, WSU hosts No. 4 Stanford (17-2, 9-0 after a 3-2 win at No. 5 Washington) in an 11 a.m. match to be broadcast live on the Pac-12 Networks.
