Women's Golf Provides Late Surge, Takes Second

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The Washington State women's golf team rallied late in Wednesday' s final round of the Price's "Give `Em Five" Intercollegiate to climb from fourth to second place in the final tournament standings. The Cougar women's team shot 1-over par in the final round, which was the second-best team mark for the day.
The Cougar women started the day in fourth place, but bested Colorado State (fourth, +27) by a 16-stroke margin and Idaho (third, +19) by seven strokes over the final 18-hole stretch. WSU finished 17-over as a team, second only to Kansas (+7).
Junior Mallory Kent tied for third overall, leading the way for WSU with her combined three-round score to par of 1-over (217). Kent concluded the tournament by matching her second-round score of 73 (+1) in the final round. This marks her second consecutive top-10 tournament finish.
The Cougar women were led in the last 18-hole stretch by freshman Rachel Lewis. Lewis carded Washington State's lowest single-round mark for the tournament with a 70 (-2). She finished tied for 18th, marking her first top-20 finish as a Cougar.
Sophomore Kristen Rue and senior Emma Betland each shot 1-over (73) Wednesday, finishing tied for 24th and tied for 31st, respectively. Sophomore Lindsay Harmon finished tied for 21st (+8), joining teammates Rue, Lewis, and Kent in the top 25
The Washington State women's golf team looks ahead to a week off from competition. The team's next tournament will be the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown hosted by UNLV from October 21-23.
