Volleyball Falls in Three Sets at Arizona

Sept. 25, 2011

Box Score

TUCSON - The Arizona volleyball team swept Washington State Sunday afternoon in Tucson with scores of 25-13, 25-19, and 25-19 as the Cougars dropped to 9-5 overall, 1-3 in Pac-12 action and the Wildcats advanced to a 10-3 overall record, 2-2 in conference play.

UA's Madison Kingdon, Cursty Jackson and Courtney Karst combined for 31 kills as the home team hit .366 for the match. Chloe Mathis contributed 35 assists and Rachel Rhoades had three blocks. Candace Nicholson led the match with nine digs.

WSU's Meagan Ganzer had 10 of the Coguars' 29 kills and Camryn Irwin had 29 assists. Rachel Todorovich and Ver'Leea Hardaway each had three blocks and Jordan Levenseller had eight digs.

Arizona was in control of the match except for the beginning of the third set when WSU charged ahead early but could not keep the momentum.

"We struggled early like we have been doing lately," WSU Head Coach Jen Greeny said. "I thought set two was much better but again we made a few silly mistakes. We had them in set three but made some serving errors and those unforced errors really cost us."

Washington State hosts Oregon State (11-3, 3-1) Friday night in a 7:30 p.m. match to be televised live by ROOT Sports Northwest, and then takes on No. 15 and Pac-12 leading Oregon (11-1, 4-0) Saturday at 7 p.m. in Bohler Gym.
