PULLMAN, Wash. - J.J. Altobelli was 3-for-4 with two RBI to lead Oregon past Washington State 6-3 in Pacific-10 Conference baseball at Bailey-Brayton Field, Saturday.
The Ducks (29-25-1, 8-15 Pac-10) evened the three-game conference series with the Cougars (23-26, 7-16 Pac-10). The two teams will play the deciding game Sunday beginning at noon.
"We missed some opportunities to expand our lead early," Washington State Head Coach Donnie Marbut said. "We just didn't enough of the little things to win."
In the fourth, the Cougars loaded the bases with no one out against Oregon starter Christian Jones (6-2). Derek Jones walked, Taylor Ard singled and Patrick Claussen was hit by a pitch. However, Washington State scored only one run, which came on a ground out by Brett Jacobs.
The Ducks took a 2-1 lead in the fifth with a pair of runs on four hits. The Cougars answered in the bottom of the inning with two runs of their own to regain the lead at 3-2.
With two outs, Cody Bartlett doubled and moved to third on a wild pitch. After Jones was hit by a pitch, Ard took over the Pac-10 RBI lead at 49 with a two-run double.
Oregon tied the game in the sixth with an unearned run against reliever Kellen Camus (3-1). The Ducks added two runs in the seventh on three hits against Camus and tacked on a run and two hits off Taylor Williams in the ninth.
