Stanford Defeats Cougar Baseball

PULLMAN, Wash. - Stanford scored nine times over the first-two innings and the No. 11 Cardinal cruised to a 22-3 win in Pacific-10 Conference baseball, Saturday at Bailey-Brayton Field.

In a game delayed three hours and 34 minutes at the start and another 33 minutes in the fifth inning due to weather, Lonnie Kauppila was 6-for-6 with four RBI and Brian Ragira drove in seven runs for Stanford (12-7, 1-1 Pac-10).

The Cardinal scored two runs in the first, seven in the second, two in the fourth, five in the fifth, five in the sixth and one in the eighth.

Washington State (11-11, 1-4 Pac-10) scored in the third on a RBI-single by Cody Bartlett. In the sixth, Trace Tam Sing opened with a single and scored on a double by Paul Clingan. The final run for the Cougars came home in the ninth on a run-scoring double by Tommy Richards.

Jordan Pries (4-1) gave up two runs and struck out seven over seven innings for the victory. James Wise (2-3) yieled eight runs, seven earned, in one and two-thirds innings and suffered the loss.

The series concludes Sunday with first pitch scheduled for noon.
