PULLMAN, Wash. - Three pitchers combined on a five-hitter and Washington State defeated No. 24 Gonzaga 3-1 in nonconference baseball at Bailey-Brayton Field, Tuesday.

It was the third-straight time the Cougars (14-14) defeated the Bulldogs (19-10-1) this season. Kellen Camus (2-0) gave up one run in five innings to earn the victory in his first-collegiate start. J.D. Leckenby tossed three-shutout innings without giving up a hit and Paris Shewey blanked Gonzaga in the ninth for his sixth save. Mark Phillips (0-2) suffered the loss after giving up two runs in four innings.

"Our pitching was tremendous tonight," Cougar Head Coach Donnie Marbut said. "Kellen Camus gave us a big lift and we had enough offense to win."

The Cougars got on the board first with two runs in the second. Matt Argyropoulos and Jason Monda opened with singles and moved up on a ground out by Tommy Richards. Collin Slaybaugh's sacrifice fly scored Argyropoulos and Monda took third. Kyle Johnson, playing for the first time in five weeks after recovering from a wrist injury, followed with a bunt single to plate Monda for a 2-0 lead.

The Bulldogs tallied their run in the fifth on a pair of singles and a ground out. The Cougars answered in the bottom of the frame went Derek Jones hit a line drive over the wall in right-center field for his team-leading fifth home run of the season. The round-tripper was the 29th of his career moving Jones into sole possession of ninth place on the Washington State career list.

The Cougars open a three-game Pacific-10 Conference series at No. 10 Arizona State, Friday with first pitch scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
