PULLMAN, Wash. - The Washington State University tennis team opened its 2011 season with a 7-0 victory over Lewis-Clark State College Friday morning at the Simmelink Courts at Hollingbery Fieldhouse.

The Cougars started off strong by sweeping the three doubles matches for the opening point. At No. 1 Liudmila Vasilieva and Olga Musilovich defeated Dominika Jasova and Barbara Sneckner 8-0. At No. 2 Andjela Kankaras and Ksenia Googe had little trouble with Dorothy Chong and Samantha Teigen, 8-1, which was quickly followed by Lea Jansen and Elisabeth Fournier's win over Ciara Schultz and Chelsea Gay at No. 3.

In singles play, Fournier gave the Cougars a 2-0 lead as she defeated Chong, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 2 singles. Googe followed with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Sneckner at No. 3 just before Kankaras clinched the match for WSU with a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 4 over Ciara Schultz.

At No. 1 singles, Vasilieva finished strong for a 6-2, 6-0 win over Jasova while at No. 6 Marina Nicolas defeated Florencia Martina, 6-0, 6-0. Musilovich closed out the match with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Teigen at No. 5.

The Cougars continue their season-opening doubleheader as they host Seattle University Friday afternoon at 2 p.m.
