Box Score

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. -- The Washington State Cougars volleyball team (2-2) was swept by Tulsa (2-2) in the opening match of the University of San Francisco Powerade Asics Challenge tournament at War Memorial Gym in San Francisco.

Tulsa won with set scores of 25-12, 25-16, and 25-15.

Tulsa took a commanding lead in the first set and never looked back, taking a 25-12 win. The Cougars found success early in the second set, going ahead 8-3 and extending to 10-8. The Golden Hurricane overcame the slow start and went ahead 17-14 before racking up six unanswered points. The deficit was too much for WSU, falling 25-16. Tulsa scored the final seven points of the third set to take a 25-15 win and claim the match.

"Unfortunately this match was a continuation of what we did against Idaho," Cougar Coach Andrew Palileo said. "Some of our core players are not playing at the level they should be playing at. No one is stepping up and we are just not bringing a lot of energy and intensity to the court right now. We are not playing with a lot of passion. We are back to square one."

Match statistics were not available from USF at the end of the match and not expected until later in the weekend.

In Saturday's tournament schedule, Washington State plays UC Santa Barbara at 9:30 a.m. and host USF at 7 p.m.
