SEATTLE, Wash. -- Washington State's Lisa Egami added the women's 3000m indoor school record to her list of accomplishments as a Cougar Saturday at the UW Final Qualifier Meet at the Dempsey Indoor in Seattle.
Egami, a senior from Coquitlam, British Columbia, Canada, ran an NCAA Provisional Qualifying time of 9 minutes, 27.45 seconds in the 3000m which was the WSU indoor women's record and the third-fastest women's 3k time in school history, and fifth place in the race. Egami surpassed Sara Trané's WSU 3k record time of 9:28.54, run last year at the same facility in Seattle. Unfortunately Egami's time will probably not be fast enough to be included in the NCAA Championships next weekend. This was the first indoor 3000m collegiate race for Egami.
Also in Seattle, Holly Parent (freshman, Victoria, B.C.) cleared an NCAA PQ height of 5-feet, 10 inches (1.78m) in the high jump but has already cleared 5-11 1/2 (1.82m) this season, which was tied for 13th going into the weekend. In Seattle Saturday, Parent passed until the bar reached 5-6 which she cleared on her first attempt, need two tries to get over the bar at 5-8 and then cleared 5-10 on her first attempt. She missed all three attempts at 6-0.
Courtney Zalud (freshman, Colbert) took sixth place in the women's 800m with a time of 2:11.98, just off her personal-best time of 2:11.13 run last weekend. Senior Mark Moeller (Spokane) ran the 5000m in a time of 15:01.48, which was second place.
The Cougar men's 4x400m relay squad of freshman Greg Hornsby (Moreno Valley, Calif.), junior Jeshua Anderson (Woodland Hills, Calif.), senior Reny Follett (Lewiston, Idaho) and sophomore Joe Abbott (Reno) did not finish their heat at the Iowa State NCAA Qualifier in Ames, Iowa, after Anderson pulled up with a hamstring injury. This WSU squad ran an NCAA PQ time of 3:09.35 at the MPSF Championships last weekend in Seattle, but was trying to better the 24th position in the national standings to score an invite.
The NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships are March 12-13, in Fayetteville, Ark.
