MOSCOW, Idaho -- Washington State indoor track and field competitors reached 28 personal-record marks Friday night at the Vandal Collegiate Meet in the Kibbie Dome in Moscow, Idaho, as the Cougars tuned up for their conference championships next weekend.

It was a good evening for the Cougar throwing corps. Sophomore weight throwers Kjirsten Jensen and Cassie Whitfield tossed PRs with Jensen's 61-feet, 2 1/4 inches (18.65m) a five-foot improvement and just 4 1/4 inches from an NCAA Provisional Qualifying mark. Jensen was runner-up to EWU's Nicole Luckenbach who threw an NCAA PQ mark of 61-11 3/4 (18.89m). Whitfield's 58-8 (17.88 m) was third place. Jensen's mark is the fourth-best in WSU history and Whitfield's mark is sixth-best all-time. Jasmine Johnson-McKeown, a freshman multi-events competitor, continues to make a name for herself in the throwing events as she tossed the shot put 44-9 (13.64m) for second place Friday.

WSU sophomore Jacob Weintraub tossed a distance of 54-4 3/4 (16.58m) for fourth place.

Cougar pole vaulters also soared to new heights in the Kibbie Dome. John Brenteson and Jake Baertlein both cleared PR heights of 16-2 (4.93m) while women's vaulter Hiliary Moore reached a lifetime-best height, indoor or out, of 12-2 1/2 (3.72m).

Chelsea VanDeBrake won the mile in a PR time of 5:07.47, leading the race nearly from the gun. Ashlee Wall won the 3000m in a PR time of 10:27.09.

Angela Jensen lead a first-through-third WSU finish in the women's 60m hurdles and ran a PR time of 8.58. Brianne Brown (57.23) led a one-two-three Cougar finish in the women's 400m.

Freshman Greg Hornsby lead a first-through-fourth finish for the WSU men in the 200m race with Hornsby running a PR time of 21.71 seconds.

Senior Reny Follett captured the 400m race and ran a season-best time of 48.40. Ryan Barrett and Dana Wells took the next two places. The WSU men's 4x400m relay of Barrett, Wesley McCann, Wells and Luke Lemenager won in a time of 3:19.94.

Peter Miller and Dan Geib raced to a one-two finish in the men's mile with PR times of 4:13.37 and 4:17.72, respectively.

The Washington State track and field teams will be competing at the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships next Friday and Saturday at the Dempsey Indoor Facility in Seattle.
