PULLMAN, Wash. -- The Washington State volleyball team (6-16 overall, 0-12 Pac-10) rallied in the third set but could not overcome No. 11 Washington (18-5, 7-5) Friday night before 1,203 fans in Bohler Gym.

Kindra Carlson and Becky Perry combined for 26 kills to lead UW to a 25-17, 25-16, and 25-23 win. Jenna Hagglund had 34 assists and Carlson and Jenna Orlandini combined for 24 digs. Bianca Rowland led the match with four blocks. The Huskies hit .316 for the match and held WSU to a .114 hitting percentage.

Cougars Meagan Ganzer and Brittany Tillman each had eight kills with Oceana Bush adding 14 digs. Sara Biondi had 26 assists. Biondi, Tillman and Conley Kipp each had a pair of blocks. Ganzer landed the lone ace of the match.

In the opening set UW presented a well-balanced attack with Carlson landing four kills and the Huskies hit .370. Tillman led the Cougs with five kills and WSU hit .212. The six service errors for WSU offset the crimson clad players doubling the UW's team blocks. The second set was Huskies from the start with an outstanding .500 hitting percentage while WSU was held to .054.

The Cougars jumped out to a 6-3 start in the third set and extended the lead to 15-10 before the Huskies battled back to tie the match at 18 and at each point until 23. UW capitalized on Cougar errors to take the final two points and the match. There were a total of nine ties in this set.

"We came out with pretty good intensity and we tried to be aggressive in our serves so that we could try and put them out of position little bit," Cougar Head Coach Andrew Palileo said. "We missed too many serves and it really stalled some of our momentum. We're just not making big plays at the right time. We fought back in that third set, but what's been happening to us all year happened in the last two points of that third set. We need people to step up. We have to continue to get better and play for those situations where you have the opportunity to make the play and be the hero."

Washington State hosts No. 4 Stanford and No. 2 California, Friday and Saturday, Nov. 12 and 13, in Bohler Gym.
