TUCSON, Ariz. -- Megan Ganzer and Rachel Todorovich combined for 32 kills but the Washington State volleyball team (6-19 overall, 0-15 Pac-10) lost at No. 22 Arizona (19-9, 8-7) Friday night with set scores of 25-13, 19-25, 25-16, 25-23.
UA's Tiffany Owens and Courtney Karst tallied a total of 27 kills and Owens added 12 digs to lead the Wildcats. Paige Weber had 34 assists and Candace Nicholson added another 12 digs. Kaylen Bannister led the match with five blocks.
Ganzer had 20 kills and Todorovich added 12 kills to the Cougars. Brittany Tillman contributed six kills and three blocks. Oceana Bush had 15 digs and Sara Biondi had 36 assists.
The Wildcats began the match with a 15-2 advantage in the first set and went on to dominate the action for the 25-13 win, hitting .458 in the win. WSU took the upper hand in the second set, holding the lead through the set after the 2-2 tie for the 25-16 win. The Cougars struggled in the third set as the home team hit .379 and held WSU to a .188 hitting percentage. Washington State was down 13-6 in the fourth set and powered up a 17 to 10 scoring run to knot the set at 23 points. Kills by Arizona's Owens and Whitney Dosty handed the 25-23 set win to the Wildcats.
Washington State plays its final road match Saturday at Arizona State (11-16, 5-9).
