Volleyball Drops 3-1 Match at No. 6 California

BERKELEY, Calif. -- Washington State (6-10 overall, 0-6 Pac-10) dropped a 3-1 match at No. 6 California (16-1, 6-1) Friday night with set scores of 26-24, 21-25, 25-15, and 25-8 at Haas Pavilion on the Berkeley campus.

Meagan Ganzer led the Cougars with 17 kills and Rachel Todorovich, playing in her first match in over a month, added 10 kills. Kaleinani Kablis and Oceana Bush combined for 24 digs. Sara Biondi had 44 assists. Conley Kipp had a career-high 9 kills and led the team with four blocks. WSU hit .149 for the night.

Tarah Murrey led Cal with 20 kills and four blocks while setter Carli Lloyd added eight kills, hit. 727, had 45 assists and four blocks. Kat Brown had eight blocks while Shannon Hawari and Adrienne Gehan each added another four blocks. Robin Rostratter and Erin Freeman combined for 30 digs. The Golden Bears hit .316 for the match.

After a very competitive first set and winning the second set, the Cougars could not maintain the level of play and were never a threat in the third and fourth sets.

"I told the team at the break that Cal is sixth-ranked for a reason and they are going to make adjustments and we need to adjust to that and we didn't," WSU Head Coach Andrew Palileo said. "Some of our leaders went away. We need to continue to work hard and continue to play through the match."

Washington State crosses the Bay to take on No. 2 Stanford (15-1, 6-1) Saturday night at 7 p.m. in Maples Pavilion. Stanford defeated No. 7 Washington 3-1 Friday night.
