MacArthur Throws NCAA PQ at Vandal Indoor

MOSCOW, Idaho -- Washington State senior Phil MacArthur threw the 35-pound weight throw a personal-best and NCAA Provisional Qualifying distance of 64-feet, 1 3/4 inches (19.55m) at the 34th Annual Vandal Indoor Track & Field Meet Friday in the University of Idaho Kibbie Dome.

MacArthur, from Selkirk, Wash., finished second among collegians in the event.

On the track, sophomore Marlon Murray (Des Moines, Wash.) won both the men's 60m dash and the 200m dash with PR times of 6.82 and 21.48 seconds, respectively. André Jennings finished second in the 60m in a PR time of 6.99. Senior Lorraine King (Fontana, Calif.) won both the women's 400m dash, in a PR time of 55.60, and the 60m hurdles, with a PR time of 8.53. Freshmen Brianne Brown (57.88) and Jacki Hill (59.49) both ran PRs in the 400m while Angela Jensen (8.61), Jalisa Williams (8.91) and Caroline Hedel (9.05) all ran PR times in the 60m hurdles.

Jeshua Anderson (Woodland Hills, Calif.) won the men's 400m dash in a time of 47.43, followed by Cougars Barry Leavitt and Reny Follett, both with times of 48.86.

In the field, Moreno Zapata (senior, Lakewood, Wash.) won the men's triple jump with a leap of 48-2 (14.68m) and Sarah Burns (senior, Tacoma) won the women's triple jump with a season-best 39-10 1/2 (12.15m). WSU freshman Jessica Yates (Snohomish, Wash.) finished second in the women's event with a leap of 37-11 1/4 (11.56m).

Kendall Mays was the runner-up in the women's pole vault at 12-9 1/2 (3.90m) and Alexa Huestis finished third after vaulting a PR height of 12-9 1/2.

Saturday the Cougars will compete in the Running Soul Open, also in the Kibbie Dome in Moscow.
