PULLMAN, Wash. - San Jose State scored four times in the fourth inning and posted a 6-2 victory over Washington State in nonconference baseball at Bailey-Brayton Field, Saturday.
The Spartans (24-18) won for the eighth time in their last 10 games and snapped a three-game Washington State (22-19) winning streak.
"I was disappointed with our lack of effort in every facet of the game," Cougar Head Coach Donnie Marbut said. "You cannot take a day off against the teams on our schedule."
San Jose State broke through in the fourth off Cougar starter Chad Arnold (2-3) on Kyle Bellows's three-run double. Jacob Bruns added a sacrifice fly for a 4-0 lead.
Washington State put together three-straight singles with two outs in the sixth, the final one by Greg Lagreid to score Jared Prince and cut the Cougars' deficit to 4-1. In the seventh, Shea Vucinich opened with a double and came home to score on a single by Travis Coulter bringing WSU within 4-2.
The Spartans added two runs on the eighth on an error and a balk.
