Cougars Falter at Pac-10 Championships

OJAI, Calif. - The Washington State women's tennis team came up short of its goals at the Pacific-10 Championships. The Cougars sent five student-athletes along with two doubles tandem to Ojai, Calif., but were ousted after the second day.

Hopeful Ekaterina Burduli completed her play at the Pac-10 Championships as she was ousted in the singles back draw by No. 58 UCLA's Alex McGoodwin, 6-0, 6-1. Burduli finished her stellar season with 25 wins, which puts her third on the WSU's single season victory list.

Doubles tandem Amy Toth and Marjolein van de Ven were ousted in the first round of the Pac-10 doubles flight by 21st ranked Kady Pooler and Roxanne Clarke of Arizona State, 8-3.

In the Invitational Pac-10 doubles draw, Aleksandra Stefanova and Aleksandra Cekic found themselves in the second round, but were defeated by Claudia Hirt and Anna Powaska of Oregon, 8-3.

The Pac-10 Championships will continue Saturday, April 29.
