Box Score

BERKELEY, Calif. -- The California volleyball team, ranked 14th in the latest USA Today/CSTV Top 25, defeated Washington State 30-23, 30-21, 30-18, Thursday night at Haas Arena in Berkeley.

California (15-9, 10-5 in Pac-10) was led by the 11 kills and five aces of Gabrielle Abernathy. Jenna Brown added 10 kills and three blocks. Samantha Carter had 40 assists and four blocks while Alexis Kollias had a match-high 11 digs.

The Cougars (4-24, 1-14) were led by Jessie Camp's 11 kills. Jennifer Todd, Jen Barcus and Kristin Kelley each added six kills and three blocks while Kelly Rosin had four kills and three blocks. Nicole Martin added 28 assists and Stacey Holbrook had seven digs.

The Bears hit .305 for the match and held WSU to a .127 hitting percentage.

"I thought Jen Barcus had a great night hitting with six kills on 11 swings hitting .455 but I think the most impressive thing about her is she is playing back row for us now and serving," Cougar Head Coach Brian Heffernan said. "She is really starting to develop some leadership skills and play with confidence. She is playing much more aggressively than earlier in the season."

WSU travels across the Bay to face No. 9 Stanford Friday night at Burnham Gym on the Stanford campus.
