Sept. 17, 1999
PULLMAN, Wash. -- Stanford needed only one hour and 14 minutes to
demonstrate its dominance of the Pac-10 Conference volleyball to a young
Washington State squad playing its first Pac-10 match of this season. The
Cardinal defeated the Cougars 15-3, 15-9, and 15-4.
The Cougars were without starter Missy Blackshire, a sophomore outside
hitter from Spokane, Wash., who was suspended for the Stanford match, for
violating undisclosed team rules, coach Cindy Fredrick. Freshman Adrian
Hankoff started in her place and led the Cougs with 12 kills in addition to
11 digs.
Stanford was led by the 1998 National Prep Player of the Year, Logan Tom,
with 16 kills and eight blocks.
Stanford out-blocked WSU 11 to 3.
"You can't play Stanford and come from behind every game," Cougar coach
Fredrick said. "They have so many people who can attack."
The Cougars, now 0-1 in league and 5-3 overall, play California Saturday
night at Beasley Coliseum.
