PULLMAN, Wash. - Sophomore Tasha Browner (Tarzana, Calif.) and junior
Jennifer Dodd (Portland, Ore.) finished the first day of the Brigham Young
University Invitational at the Hobble Creek Golf Course in Springville, Utah
in the top 15 and have the Cougars sitting at fifth in the team standings
after 36 holes.
Browner (78-77--155) led Washington State, finishing in a three-way tie for
eighth place. Dodd, who is coming off her career-best finish last week at
the Ptarmigan Ram Fall Classic, turned in steady 77 and 79 stroke rounds to
finish 12-over-par.
The Cougar Women carded a 630 stroke team total and are 25 shots behind
tournament leader, the University of Texas-El Paso. Hawaii (314-312--626)
and California (325-301--626) are tied for second after the opening day of
play. Tournament host, Brigham Young University (308-320--628) is fourth
and two strokes in front of Washington State.
Texas-El Paso's Kristen MaClaren (74-71--145) and Melissa Mendoza
(73-77--150) claimed the top two individual spots on Monday.
