PULLMAN, Wash. - UCLA, ranked 10th, needed only 73 minutes to defeat the Washington State Cougars 15-4, 15-10, 15-4, Friday night before a Homecoming Weekend crowd of 1,480 fans at Beasley Coliseum.

WSU drops to 7-6 overall, 2-4 in conference play while UCLA moves to 12-1 overall, 4-0 in Pac-10 contests.

UCLA's Kristee Porter led all players with 17 kills and teammate Tamika Johnson had 12 kills. WSU, hitting a -.051 for the match, was led by Missy Blackshire and Joy Sperry with five kills each. Sperry had 10 digs while the Bruins' Michelle Quon had 15 digs.

Elisabeth Bachman had 11 blocks and the Bruins out-blocked WSU 18 to 6.

"UCLA is an absolutely awesome team," Cougar coach Cindy Fredrick said. "This is the most balanced team I seen at UCLA since four years ago." She was referring to the 1994 Bruin team that finished second to Stanford in the national title match.

The Bruins led from start to finish in game one, hitting .273 to the Cougars' -.167 for the 15-4 win.

WSU made a run in game two with a 6-0 lead before Porter and Johnson brought UCLA back to tie at six. UCLA scored four unanswered points to take an 11-7 lead but WSU found back to come within one a 11-10. Two service errors and three attack errors by WSU gave UCLA the 15-10 win. The Cougs hit its match high of .109 but the Bruins' tagged a .214.

Game three saw a 10-1 Bruin run and WSU couldn't stop the tide, only scoring three more times.

WSU travels to Arizona for a FOX Sports Net live televised match Friday, Oct. 8.
