James Dorr became a volunteer coach at Washington State University during the summer of 2015 bringing with him experience as a collegiate player and club coach.

Dorr lettered four years as an outside hitter and libero on the men’s volleyball at Limestone College (Gaffney, South Carolina), an NCAA Division II institution. He was a two-time Conference Carolinas All-Academic team selection. After receiving his bachelors’ degree in psychology from Limestone College in 2013, Dorr came to Pullman to pursue his master’s degree and worked in the Student Recreation Center. He played on the WSU Men’s Club team and coached multiple volleyball camps as well as for the Palouse Area Club Volleyball U14 team.

An East Valley High School (Spokane Valley) graduate, Dorr played basketball and competed in track and field. He played forward on the basketball team and was known for his rebounding abilities. He threw the discus and shot put for the Knights’ track team and advanced to the Washington State Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA) state championships in both events. He was a four-year team manager for the EVHS girls’ volleyball program, working for the legendary coach and his father, the late Jim Dorr.

Dorr was an outstanding scholar and was named his high school’s Foreign Language Student of the Year and was a Spokane Scholar nominee for World Languages. He graduated with a 4.0 GPA, was his class valedictorian, and was named EVHS Male Scholar Athlete of the Year as a senior.

While in high school, Dorr played also play boys’ club volleyball. He was an outside hitter and right side hitter for the Seattle Space Needle Volleyball Foundation Club, helping the program to a 10th place finish at the 2009 national tournament in Atlanta. He was also an outside hitter on the High Performance Continental Team.

Dorr completed his masters’ degree in Counseling Psychology at WSU in the spring of 2015.
