Learie Jones

Learie Jones begins his first season at Washington State as an assistant athletic trainer for the men’s basketball program. He arrived in Pullman prior to the 2021-22 season.

Prior to WSU, Jones spent four seasons as the athletic trainer for women’s basketball and men’s and women’s tennis at Saint Mary’s College in Moraga, Calif. Jones arrived at St. Mary’s following two years as a graduate assistant athletic trainer at Ohlone Community College in Fremont, where he worked with water polo, swimming, basketball, baseball, and softball during their respective seasons. He also functioned as a Per Diem Athletic Trainer for Stanford club athletics, providing coverage for Women’s Rugby and Ultimate Frisbee.

Jones received his Master’s in Kinesiology with a concentration in Athletic Training from San Jose State University in 2017 and completed his Bachelor’s in Exercise and Sports Science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2014, later earning his BOC certification in athletic training that summer. In his novice years as a Certified Athletic Trainer, Jones provided services to an array of Women’s Soccer and Basketball camps through the University of North Carolina before enrolling to the San Jose State graduate athletic training program.

Jones grew up in Des Moines, Iowa and attended East High School, where he participated in varsity sports including cross country, track, and basketball. Being competitive and involved with sports culture during his childhood is what inspired him to pursue a career in athletic training.
